Emergency crews are responding to a serious multi-vehicle crash that occurred late this morning near the intersection of Main Street and Abercorn Avenue in downtown Savannah. Authorities have confirmed that at least three vehicles were involved, and multiple injuries have been reported.

According to Savannah Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Tara Whitman, the crash happened around 10:30 AM when a black SUV reportedly ran a red light and struck a white sedan, triggering a chain reaction that also involved a delivery van. Eyewitnesses say the impact was severe, with one vehicle pushed onto the sidewalk and another overturning.

First responders were on the scene within minutes. Two individuals were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while another was treated at the scene for minor cuts and bruises. Police have not yet released the names of those involved.

Traffic in the area is heavily backed up, and Main Street is currently closed in both directions as investigators work to reconstruct the scene. Drivers are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Investigators are reviewing traffic camera footage and speaking with witnesses to determine the exact cause of the crash. No citations or arrests have been made at this time, but authorities say alcohol or distracted driving have not been ruled out.

This is a developing story. ByteWise News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
